Strict new rules come into effect in April to stop tourists gawping at the naked and scantily-clad prostitutes. Tourists in Amsterdam's infamous red light district will have to turn their backs on the sex workers in windows, according to strict new rules. Holiday makers visiting the notorious stag-do hotspot are being told to stop ogling the naked and scantily-clad prostitutes in the red light district. Tour guides will have to ensure that visitors have their backs to the women who pose in full-length windows in brothels. The strict new rules, which come into effect in April, have been put in place by city authorities to crack down on the number of gawping tourists swarming the area. Shouting, alcohol and drug use are also forbidden on the tours and visitors will no longer be allowed to take pictures. Tour operators are also being ordered to tell sightseers to show 'respect' to sex workers and residents of the red light district. The red light district has come under scrutiny after a string human trafficking convictions in the Dutch courts exposed the horrific conditions endured by women from Eastern Europe at the hands of vicious pimps.

If you visit Amsterdam you must see the red light district. Amazing how coexist side by side this district and the oldest church in Amsterdam, the Oude kirk. Just a must see in amsterdam! And don't lie to yourselfe! You'll see tourist groups from all over the world with guided tours in this district!! This is one of the three areas in Amsterdam where prostitution is legal. It's got everything you would expect. There are bar, restaurants, coffee houses, coffee shops and many ladies in the window. Taking a picture of one of the ladies is prohibited.
Red Light District Amsterdam – The Ultimate Guide
It was interesting to see however at some points I feared for my safety. Definitely would go again though! Should be seen just to ease human curiosity, but not somewhere I would want to go again. I found it very odd and the concept bizarre!!! Our hotel was literally right at the edge of the Red Light District, about 5 minutes walk from Central Station, i didn't realise this when i booked it! But it turned out to be an ideal location for us, this place is buzzing at night! I recommend that to everyone, because otherwise you might feel a bit lost between all the red lights, the prostitutes, the tourists and the drug dealers Wandered around in the daytime and was fascinated by the sights.
Something that everyone does here in Amsterdam. Interestingly, these few windows are right next to a huge old church in the centre of the city, known as the Oude Kerk , or the Old Church. A skimpy girl in lingerie stares back at me. I continue walking, quickly shifting my glance to the next window. Another young lady is in there. This continues, as I walk past maybe seven or eight windows, and am propositioned in sign language by seven or eight half naked women. When I reach the end, I take a moment to shake it off. In the distance, I see even more pink lights, leading into a bunch of small alleyways and side streets.
