What is funded under the Seniors Alert Scheme?
The Seniors Alert Scheme SAS is a government grant-aided scheme which covers the cost of a telecare system, for people aged 65 and over. The scheme covers the cost of getting a socially monitored pendant alarm system installed in your home, and also covers the cost of the first years hour monitoring. Tens of thousands of people in Ireland, have already availed of the monitored alarm scheme. The Seniors Alert Scheme is administered by semi-state body Pobal. Pobal do not however deal with individual applications directly, but accept the SAS applications for monitored alarms from local community and voluntary groups.
Pobal is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that manages programmes on behalf of a number of Government Departments and the E. The Seniors Alert Scheme SAS encourages community support for vulnerable older people by providing personal monitored alarms. To enable older persons to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind by providing them with a free personal monitored alarm. It is free. The equipment is funded through the Department of Rural and Community Development. Simply contact your local community or voluntary group operating the scheme in your area and they will apply on your behalf. Click here to view Brochure for the Seniors Alert Scheme.
The Seniors Alert application forms are not completed by older people directly, but by registered community groups , who submit them to Pobal on the older persons behalf. Instead, SAS funding applications are made by local and voluntary and community groups, registered with Pobal i. The registered group or Pobal will also be able to answer any questions, about your grant-aided monitored alarm under the Seniors Alert Scheme. Under the new Seniors Alert Scheme, the first year of hour monitoring is included free of charge. The equipment funded is installed as soon as possible and must be installed within six weeks of receipt of approval from Pobal. This is subject to agreement with all parties i. You can also direct questions about the Seniors Alert Scheme directly to Pobal or to your local registered community or voluntary group.
