Wow just found this blog and for the first time am in mid's feel some support as an MD's wife of 30 years who is socially isolated he has very few friendsgetting despondent, bitter and resentful due to having some expectations which are met with constant disappointment. And no one has the right to judge you for your decision. When he's not at work, he's busy preparing or at conferences or studying, basically non existent. The Mormon church is certainly a time consuming church. Which is the highest place in heaven aka celestial kingdom. Of course she won't want to watch something that in her mind attacks her religion. It MAY be true that she will not marry him unless he converts. Why shouldn't both people be responsible for making it work. Either it's enough for you - or it's not. This girl is also a real person, not a caricature of a cult member, and even if the ultimate result is a breakup, she deserves to be treated with compassion and respect.
Personally I have a rule that I will not enter a relationship with a believing Mormon. I would like to know if this is normal. Earlier I mentioned "Even if the church believes a bunch of crazy nonsense, and she believes it too, I still really like her and would like to see whether we can have some good intellectual conversations about this stuff. I will keep reading, but it looks like most of the stuff about racism and polygamy has been "adequately" explained away by updates to LDS. If everything she is taught is correct and the Mormon church is "true" she should be able to research any anti-Mormon books or movies and prove their criticisms are lies.
